PASSENGER LINERS
FEW FOR WELLINGTON
, As lias '.occurred on. several occasions previously this year, no intercolonial liners are diia at Wellington for a fortnight. The Makura, ■ which arrived yesterday from Sydney and was to sail this afternoon for San Francisco; is the last vessel to briug passengers to Wellington from Australia until August 22. The Monowoi, which has been laid up in Wellington, is to leave here for Sydney on Thursday, and until August 22, when the Maungdnui sails for Sydney in continuation of her voyago from San Francisco, there will be no outward passenger liners from Wellington for Australia. ' Tho Shaw, Snvill Company's Mataroa and tho Union Company's Maungamii will bo the only vessels bringing overseas passengers to Wellington before August 22. The JMatiiroa is expected to arrive here about August 10 from Southampton, and the Maunganui is due on August 21 from. Son Francisco, sailing on the following day for Sydttey. . ' .' ■ Auckland has been the move favoured I port recently, for since July .25 five overseas passenger lincre have arrived and: four have left. These include tho Kangitane, from Southampton, • which .arrived | at Auckland on August 2, and tho Kangitiki, which left Auckland last Friday for London. Tho Marama arrived at Auckland today from Sydney with passongerß, and the Niagara, which arrived there yceterday, from Vancouver, was to Bail today for Sydney, where she will be laid up, being replaced by the Monowai. The Marama is to leave Auckland on Thursday for Sydney, and the Mariposa will arrive there on Friday from San Francisco, sail- i ing on the samo day for Sydney and : j Melbourne. The Wangauella, from Melbourne and Sydney, is due at Auckland on August 16, arid tho Monowai, which is to leava Wellington on Thursday, will replace the Niagara, as mentioned above, and arrive at Auckland on' August 21 en route to Vancouver.-
