NOT AS IN OLD DAYS
In commenting on the extraordinarily little jumping that has so far been preliminary to the Grand National Meeting, a veteran trainer at Riecarton remarked that it used to bo common for half a dozen horses to be schooled together. He remembered one lesson in winch lie took part, when seveu Grand' National Steeplechase candidates and one other were sent together over three miles, without mishap. There was an occasion when as many as seventeen amateur riders lined up for the Tally Ho Steeples, in the Christchurch Hunt Club's programme, which eventually was incorporated as the third ,dny of the Grand National.
