BROADFIELD AS 'CHASER

The eight-year-old Acre gelding Broadfield, who was the only horse safely to "et round in- the Lawford Steeplechase at tho Christchurch Hunt Meeting last Saturday, was bred in the North Island, but he was bought for the south before racing by Mr. E. N. Didham. He won for Mr. Didhain as a three-year-old, but ho is now owned by Mr. J. E. Brown, who has been running him this winter with the Otago hounds. ■ As an early three-year-old Broadnelu was regarded at Wingatui as a rather promising sort, but later on he drifted out of favour. He won at Cromwell and Tuapeka that season, and was also nine times placed out of seventeen starts. He only started once as a four-year-old, and did not appear on the scene during the next couple of seasons. He resumed racing at the Dunedin Winter Meeting, and a fortnight ago gained a minor placing at Waimate. Waitarcre, the sire of his dani, won over hurdles and fences, and was got by Torpedo from Kivulet, by Javelin. Waitarere 'was a brother to The Shannon, The Brook, and Brooklet.
