CHRISTINA FRASER
INQUIRY INTO LOSS
WAS SHE FIT TO CARRY COAL?
SYDNEY, August 1. A marine court of inquiry into" the loss of the coal freighter ■ Christina Fraser in h,eavy weather on the night of June 23 was opened today. Meteorological reports described the weather in the vicinity of Gabo, where the vessel is believed to have foundered, as quite moderate, yet according to the master of the Koranui the weather was very violent when last he saw the Christina Fraser in that locality. < The Seamen's Union called two former seamen employed on the Christina Fraser. Both testified that she was a cranky ship, quite unsuitable for the coal trade between Newcastle and Melbourne. They were always "windy" and finally left her. . The inquiry was adjourned.
