WIN FOR ATHLETIC
As an exhibition of Rugby the contest between St. Patrick's College Old Boys and Athletic at Prince of Wales Park could hardly be!classed as up to senior A standard. Athletic won by 17 points to 6 in a game that was without a singl9 incident capable of raising real enthusiasm. Athletic made a good start. Their forwards worked energetically and gained possession of the ball in the majority of scrums and line outs. The backs showed promise in the early stages of the game, but, later their passing became so erratic that it was given up altogether. St. Pat's had the better of the game territorially during the first spell, but their backs lacked the combination that should have enabled them to score at least two tries. • The half-time score was 8-6 in Athletics favour, St. Pat's six points coming from penalty kicks. Athletic put a more sustained effort' into their game in _ the second spell and were frequently within striking distance of St. Pat's goal line. They liad to contend with solid tackling, however. The nine points added by Athletic in this spell came from two unconverted tries and one penalty goal. Three of Athletics tries were scored by. Evans and one by Upclrurch. Jolly kicked a penalty goal ami Evans converted one try. McGuinness kicked two penalty, goals for St.' Pat's. Mr. C. H. Jenkius was the referee.
