BILLIARDS CONTEST
The Wellington provincial amateur billiards championship, being played at the rooms of Billiards, Ltd., has reached the final stages, Simpson (G.P.O. Social and Literary Club) having already qualified as a finalist. The other player to contest the final on Monday night will bo the winner of the game between .1. Spencer (Federal) and A. Duncan (V.M.C.A.), to be played tonight. In an exceedingly cbse tussle Spencer defcated i Shanks (Working Men's Club) by 5 points, and Simpson won by '45 pojnts from Shepherd (Wellington East Post Office). Last night ,J. Petley (Commercial Travellers) was eliminated by Duncan in a game in which both missed opportunities of running to points before Duncan, with rather better leaves than his opponent, reached 300, Pe'tley's score then being 263. The best break was a 49 by Duncan. Simpson had the better of his game with Rosenbniim (V.M.C.A.), and M-on by 300 to 223. The best breaks were a 46 by Simpson nnd a 4.1 by Rosenbaum. The final on Monday night will be of 500 up.
