EXTENSION OF BOUNDARIES

Opposition to clause 137 of the Municipal Corporations Bill, which provides machinery for areas adjacent to a borough being included in the borough on petition, was expressed at the New Zealand Counties Association conference yesterday. \The president (Mr. A. E. Jull,, M.P.) said that the clause in the Bill, which had been introduced into Parliament last session, was objected to by 'the smaller boroughs because of the arbitrary nature of the clause. It was suggested that if boundaries were to be extended it should be done by way of a poll.

The Hon. AY. H. Mclntyre, M.L.C., said he thought that the matter could safely be left to the executive to see that the interests of the counties were safeguarded when the Bill went before the House again. A remit opposing the clause was passed.
