THE TEST RESULT

Australia's defeat of the Springboks in the second Test, played at Durban on Saturday, represents one of. the big-1 gest surprises sprung in international football. The cabled report indicates j that speed was an important contributing factor to the success of the tourists. In the improved play of the forwards the presence of Louden and Hodgson, neither of whom played in the first Test, would also be a factor. On the other hand, it seems that the South African team was adversely affected by changes. It is understood that two changes were made in the-three-quarter line, Turner and Lyster replacing Waring and Barnard, and that there were at least three changes in the pack. The captain, Nel, was unable to play owing to an injury received in the first Test. The third Test is to be played at Johannesburg on August 12, the fourth at Port Elizabeth on August .26, and the fifth at Bloemfontein on September 2. The New Zealand team of 1928 played four Tests with South Africa, with the following results: —First, at Durban, lost 0-17"; second, at Johannesburg, won 7-6; third, at Port Elizabeth, lost' 6-11; fourth, at Cape Town, won 13-5.
