The fifth round of iuterciub intermediate grade matches resulted in wins for Aotea, Harbour Board, and P.W.M.C., and a draw for Hutt and Karorl. The standard of marksmanship suffered a fairly marked loss. The fiftysix teamsmen aggregated 3T41 points, an average of 66.5. The average for the corresponding round of last, year was 66.93 (42 competitors) and the mean average for the season H7.02. The lowest and highest averages for (his year were 66.23 and 67.29 respectively. For' the third time this year P.W.M.C. made the highest team score, 476. and together with Public Service the highest combined team score, 944. P.W.31.C. was the only team to improve on previous performances, this time by one point. Thirty-two competitors scored more than f<6 points each, namely three 70's, three 69's, sixteen OS's, and ten 67's. The possibles were reoreri by C. A. Furlong (Public Service), F. The Qfth round of B grade matches resulted in inns for Brooklyn 1, "Evening Post," and Port Xicholson Ladies for the A section, and Hutt, P.W.M.C. and P.W.M.C. Ladies in the B section. The standard of marksmanship was somewhat on the low side. The eighty-four teamsmen aggregated 5475 points, an average of 63.28. The average for the corresponding round of last year was 63.35 (eighty-four competitors), and the mean average for the year 65.47. The lowest and highest averages this year were 64.67 and 65.6S respectively. The six Wellington teams have made a wonderful improvement and for the first time this year succeeded in improving on the six Hutt Valley teams by Sl points. In the A section the forty-two teamsmen aggregated 2753 points, an average of 65.55, and in the B section the same number of teamsmen aggregated 2722 points, an average of 64.51. ■ Brooklyn 1 achieved the highest team score, 464, and Port Xicholson Ladies, with the Highest ladies' team score, 461, was ths second best score. Brooklyn a and Onslow made the best combined team score, T123. Port Xicholson Ladies, South, and P.W.M.C. ladies improved on previous scores by 1, 2, and 2 points respectively. Twenty-nine competitors exceeded a score of 6li, namely, two 70's, two 69's, eight 6S's, and sevent-een 67's. The possibles were scored by R. Churcher (South) and Mrs. Warner (P.W.M.C Ladies). The folioiving circular letter has been forwarded to affiliated Xew Zealand clubs: —"It is the desire of the X.fc.M.R.A. executive that the entries for the X'evc Zealand championships should be more, in keeping with the importance of the events than the entries- so far received appear to indicate. For this reason the executive, at a special meeting, have decided to extend the time for receiving entries, and also to extend by two weeks the.periods within which the shoot should, be completed. It is the hope of the executive that its action in this, respect may Induce clubs to supplement the entries which they have already sent in. Even one additional entry from n club will be Appreciated. If your club should be one of the few that have not submitted any entries at all will you please make a special effort to see that your, club is represented in these competitions on which so much depends for the success of the miniature rifle shootlns movement. I should mention, in particular, that entries are specially desired for the A grade matches and the champion teams' match. Targets now must be in hands of the secretary not later ihan Saturday, August 19." WELLINGTON ASSOCIATION. An invitation has been received from the Jlanawatu Association for a friendly postal match. It has been suggested that two teams (an A and a B) of 20-asido be selected by each association, the number of shots each to be ten. The invitation is receiving attention. WAIRAHAPA CHAMPIONSHIP. Very wet weather somewhat marred the attendance at the Walrarapa Miniature Rifle Association championship. Quite a number of Wellington competitors made the journey. b. S. Hare, R. H. Xicholl. and D. Robertson, three past champions, and W. Philpott, had to thndt-off for a place in the final ten. This war.' derided by a round of five shots each, andi then shot for shot. Each scored the posfihle (50). Philpott dropped out after one extra bull, and Hare after four. Xicholl and Rrhertson went on for twenty shots, Xicholl dropping out on the twentieth. The shooting was not up to the usual standard, only one. J. Hunter, securing ti9. F. Harriss and P. Stewart were next with OS each. The spoon winners for this month are:—A. grade. J. The Intermediate team lost to Aotea last week, averaging 66.2 to 66.7. The team's average has dropped badly as compared with last year's results. The B team was entertained very well by the Brooklyn Club and secured a win with an average of 65.6 to 64.6. SOUTH CLUB. The championship series of 22 consecutive competition shoots, with 20 to count, is now half-way completed. Counting ten shoots ul of the eleven fired the position of the lenders is as follows:—A.
