AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP
In tho provincial amateur billiards championship continued last night at the showrooms of Billiards, Limited; A. Duncan (V.M.C.A.), ex-champion, defeated S. Moses (P. and T. Pastimes Club) by the narrow margin of 11 points. This match aroused-much interest, and many desiring to see it were unable to be accommodated. Among the spectators were a number of ladies. Duncan's experience and good generalship assisted him in his victory. Moses is one of the your.gest players in the championship, and is assured of greater success in the future. Both players are expected to go to Christehureh in September to represent Wellington in the national championship.
After much even play Duncan drew away, and with a lend of CO points he was in a strong position. Moses, however, responded with a 42 and followed this with a 32. Subsequently the game was presented to each in turn had he been able to avail himself of the opportunities. Finally, Duncan, wanting only 7 points, when his opponent needed 11, was given an easy opening from which he. ran to points. A most exciting game ended: Duncan 300.. Moses 291. The best breaks were: By Duncan. 51. 26, 32, 20, 28, 2G; by Moses, 30, 20, 42. 32. In the other game Petley (Commercial Travellers' Club) defeated Wells (G.P.O. Social and Literary Club) by 300 to 220. The contestants played attractively at times and their exhibition ' was quite entertaining. The best breaks were 32, 28. and 38 (unfinished) by Petley.
Monday night's games will be between Ti. Pefersen (Cairo Club) and JRosenbnum (V.M.C.A.I, at 7 p.m., and between Stevens (V.M.C.A.) and Evcrsleigh (Cairo Club) at 8 p.m.
