NEWTOWN SCHOOL
PARENTS' ASSOCIATION
The eighth annual meeting of the Parents' and Old Scholars' Association of Newtown School was held on Wednesday, there being a large attendance of members. -3.tr. W. B. Bradley presided.
The annual report disclosed that the association was assisting the school in many ways and relieving numerous cases or distress in the district. The balance-sheet showed that the finances were in a very satisfactory condition. In reviewing the report, the chairman enumerated some of the gifts made to the school. Among them were a- duplicator, two sewing machines, and two oflice chairs. ■ Electric bells had been installed, and were being used for five drill and in the event of earthquakes. Floodlights had also been placed in the rear playground, and a_ night practice basketball court is in use. ■ , • ;
Large numbers of garments as well as boots and shoes had been issued to children whose parents were in needy circumstances. The chairman paid a tribute to the ladies who had made the clothing.
It was reported that the Old Scholars' Tennis Club had won the B grade competition of the Lawn Tennis League. Fout basketball teams from the Old Girls' Club were showing splendid form. In a letter, the headmaster (Mr. W. Ilickson) conveyed his appreciation of the manner in which the association had assisted him during the year.-
The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mr, AY. B. Bradley; vice-presidents, Mrs. I. Robinson, Mr. C. Parsonage; trustees, Mrs. P. Bradley and Mr. H. J. Garder; secretary, Mr. J. L. Granger; treasurer, Mrs. P. Bradley; auditor, Mr. J. W. Salmon'; publicity officer, Mr. A. T. Burnette.
