WOMEN'S INSTITUTES

STOKES VALLEY BRANCH

The officers of the Upper Hutt Women's Institute were guests at the recent meeting of tho Stokes Val-, ley branch. Sympathetic reference was made to the death of a member, j Mrs. Thompson, and a few minutes' silence'was observed, messages of sympathy being passed to Mr. Thompson and his family. The announcement that the president (Mrs. Hilse) had accepted the office of delegate to the coming conference was received with applause. Mrs. Cording (producer and convener for the dramatic circle) gave an interesting talk on "Drama," and great hopes were entertained by the dramatic circle for the forthcoming dramatic festival. Appreciation was shown to Mrs. Cording, who accepted a dainty gift of handkerchiefs. The competition for the month was for best child's apron, and there were many beautiful exhibits, which will bo kept as sonic of tho gifts for the children's Christmas Tree. Mrs. Holloway's effort was placed first, Mrg. K. Thompson's second, and the article made by the late Mrs. Thompson third. An interesting demonstration of the making of men's ties was given by Miss P. Young, and Mrs. Williamson spoke a few words of appreciation and presented Miss Young with a gift of handkerchiefs. A dainty tea. was served by Mrs. Cording and Mrs. Cabby. Community ' singing and a reading from the "Home'and Country" were enjoyed by all.
