LADIES' TOURNEY
ROTORUA DISAPPOINTED
* Supporters of ladies' hockey in Rotorua are keenly disappointed at the decision of the N.Z.L.H.A. in selecting Dannevirke as the venue of this year's Dominion tournament. Clippings from the '' Rotorua: Chronicle giving the views of members^ of .he local association have been forwarded to "Sticks," and these reveal deep regret, that the town is not to have its <Jhaiice at last to conduct the tourney, particularly after the*tentative arrangements made. It is stated that by the'system of allocation in force next year's tourney will be held in the South Island, and it is possible that in 1935 RotoruaVclaims will receive recognition. In a letter to "Sticks" a Rotorua official says it is felt that the N.Z.L.H.A. has -not treated the Rotorua Association fairly over the matter. The association has been represented at four of the last five tourneys and has spent about £450 pn representation. It has also been; a consistent applicant for the tourney for about five years.' In 1931 when Auckland was given the tournament Rotorua. * was given lo understand (unofficially) that an; application in 1933 would be given every 'consideration, '■*• but after the N.Z.L.H.A. has allowed us to make considerable preparations it has let us down, and consequently we have to let our sporting, public down, too, particularly those who have generously offered to assist in. various ways. ... Had the N.Z.L.H.A. been able to give a reason and not merely an excuse -we. would not have minded so much." The writer of ■the. letter adds that he believes the controlling body's decision will have a most serious effect on ladies' hockey in Rotorua after this season.
