HUIA'S SURPRISE

WELL-DESERVED WIN

SENIOR A PROSPECTS

By their convincing defeat of Karori on Saturday last, Huia showed that they are a force to be reckoned With in the senior A competition. There was nothing of a fluke about their win, In all departments of the game Huia was the better team, although in fairness to the Karori players it must be Karori combination, and it was not up to. their usual standard. But even with Karori- playing their customary hard game with its. fine combination and tactics, it is very doubtful whether they could have staved off defeat. The Huia players worked together as a team, brilliant at times and always sound both in attack and defence." Their interceptions had a serious effect on the Karori combination, and it was. not until the last twenty minutes or so that the Blacks had anything like an even break with the ball. Then their fighting spirit which manifests itself never more strongly than when their opponents are in the lead, began. to show up, but at that last stage and with lan Nimm. out of the • half-line with an injury the game could only go one way. Hiiia have only to maintain their form to become serious contenders for tho championship, and this in their.first season in the A grade. " Hutt's defeat of Wesley gave them second place on the ladder, one .point behind Karori, and they are' an improving side and also require serious consideration. /Wesley, has deserved something better than a string of seven successive losses. On the wholo they have provided their opponents with good opposition,.and in several matches have lost by only one or two goals. Wellington could do nothing right afcainst University and their defeat was only to be expected. At the same time the loss further weakened their chances for the championship, leaving them four points ; behind Karori even although- the leaders had not improved their position.
