He fractured a pastern during the running of the Pareora Steeplechase, and he was destroyed. Deportment was an. aged gelding by Masterpiece, many of whose stock have been good jumpers. His last success was in the Great AVestern Steeplechase at' Rivcrton at Easter, a race he won two years previously. He was expected to play an important part in the decision of the 'chasing events at the recent Dunedin Meeting, but could not be started owing to foot trouble. He was never a sound horse, and it was because of this that he was not more often produced. At the last Grand National Meeting he went a good race in the big Steeples, and on the final clay finished third in the Lincoln Steeples. He was owned by Mr. J. P. Quilkin, and was trained by F.
