REQUEST RENEWED
MAORJ TOUR DESIRED [ (Special to the "Evening Post.") • ■ NELSON,. .June '20. ; The Nelson Rugby Union received n letter from the New Zealand Rugby Union lat last night's meeting officially notifying [that the controlling body was unable togrant the Seddoii Shield Union's request for a Maori team'e tour this year. Mr. J. P. Potter, said he regretted the New Zealand Union could not see its way to help the; minor unions with a tour. In good times assistance was not so necessary, but at the present time it would be ) appreciated. Several members maintained ' that the New Zealand Union would not Ibe financially committed to any great I extent beyond assembling the team, after [ which the tour should be self-supporting. The Maoris had always been a good draw, in these > districts, -where Maori players were more or leea a novelty and appealed to the public. ' • It was decided to write to the New Zealand Union regretting its decision, but renewing the request, it being pointed out that there were good prospects of a more successful tour in these districts than was the case with.'the Maori team in the •north last sfeason. ■
