(Reeei^pd June 15, noon.)
SYDNEY, This Day.
'' Contributions to tho Early Literary, History of Canterbury Province, New Zealand," formed the subject of a paper which Mrs. William Moore ("Dor* Wilcox") read to the Australian-Eng-lish Association in Sydney. Mrs. Moora made special reference to Samuel Butler, who, slio said, occupied a curious position in English literature.
Mrs. Moore linked the history of Canterbury with her description of Canterbury's early literature, and referred at length to the efforts of the early writers associated with .Canterbury. She dealt in turn with James Fitzgerald, Chariest Bowen, Dr. Rouse, Henry Jacobs, Jessi* Mackay, and others. '
