(From "The Post's" Special Reporter.) PALMEKSTON N., This Day.

The first day of the. National Dairy Sshow opened yesterday under favourable circumstances. The weather was :. cold and showery in the morning, but "cleared later, and thcro were spells of T 'welcome sunshine. •

Yesterday was -a half-holiday in Paltmerston North, and many townspeople took advantage of tho opportunity of visiting the-show. Although it is not expected that this year's attendances will equal those of last year, the indications are that the public's patronage will be up to expectations. There is much at the show to interest all sections of the community, and,- generally, a gay spirit is apparent.

The judges of produce comment most favourably upon the exhibits, and emphasise thjt although quantity is miss-■dng-in some cases, quality has been well maintained.

: Yesterday's outdoor attractions included' sheep dog trials and football matches, while in the evening the public were entertained, with a tourney staged by the Manawatu Boxing Association. ■

■ As was Only to be expected, iho in-■Ylustrial-halls were-the source of much interest to tho' public', country and townspeople aliko being vel'y interested in the wide variety of exhibits. .

The lighter side of the show entertainment has not been overlooked, and •there are the usual "wonders" in the "way of sideshows.1 "
