IMPROVING WHAKAREWAREWA
A tour of inspection of the woik done by the Whakarewarewa, Beautifying (Society was made on Thursday by the Mayor (Mr. T. Jackson), Mr. L. J. Bayiield, of the Department, and members of the committee, states a Hotqrua correspondent. It was decided to discontinue rockery work and to carry on with picket-fencing in. tho village. It was also suggested that Maori carvings be placed at intervals an the fencing and that eabbago trees bo planted in front of the meetinghouse. Native trees arc to be-plan ted on the road that leads to the Government reserve and punga ferns planted along tho boundary that leads to Guide Bella's house. It was considered essential to make the area as typically native as possible. Iv tho native reserve new concrete baths are to ba erected.
