ABDICATION FOR TWO YEARS
GUARANTEE ON EXPIRATION
(British Official Wireless.) BUGBY, May 26. ' Asked whether any guarantee would bo obtained from tlxe Maharajah of Alwar before ho is permitted to iesumo administration of his State at tho expiration of the two j'cars during which, he has agreed to leave his State, ; the1 Secretary for India, Sir Samuel Hoare, said that all questions of this kind would be considered by the paramount power in deciding when the time came, and under what conditions it would be adyisablo for his highness to return to his State.
Disturbances occurred in the State of Alwar early in tho year.- At one time British armoured cars were required to quelj disorders when rebellious. Meo peasants looted and destroyed property, and seyeral persons were injured; Sub-' sequenWy the differences between the Maharajah and the Indian Government over the administration of the Stato were temporarily settled. In response to the Maharajah's request for a British official, Mr. A. C. 0. Lothian was appointed as Prime Minister and Eevenue Minister, and Captain A. Ibbotsou resumed his post as Commissioner of tho four districts affected by the agitation. Eventually, however, the Indian Government . requested the Maharajah to abdicate for two years or accept a commission of inquiry to investigate the unrest in his State. . i
