KICKS AT GOAL
REFEREE'S JURISDICTION
Considerable discussion has resulted in local Bugby circles from the steps taken Dy tne referee in the Old BoysPoneke match to alter the manner in which the ball was held for the Old Boys place-kickers when attempts were being made to kick goals. Although it is generally recognised that the official, was acting correctly, there appears to be some uncertainty as to what is required of the kicker and the player who is holding the ball for him, and at the weekly meeting of tho management cpmmittee on Tuesday Major T. J. King asked the chairman, Mr. J. Prendeville, if the matter could be mads clear. In tho discussion, which followed it was stated that the offence lay in the placer holding his hand in such n way that the defending side was unable to tell whether the ball was on the ground. Major King said that he raised the point because he wanted-to know if the referees were "again springing something new on to the players.'' Mr. Prendeville: It is not new.
