Mr. da ye y and legion A; statement, denying remarks printed in allttwkc's Bay paper and attributed to him concerning the New Zealand Legion was made today by Mr. A. -33.. Daycy, "The statement regarding .the Legion' attributed to myself is not correct," said Mr. Davey. "I have never given such an opinion to any newspaper, jior have I don' 6so at any meeting. 'My views on the Legion are entirely my own affair, and I cannot be held responsible if a garbled and inaccurate version of some private conversation of which I have mo recollection has found its way into a'newspaper. I dony the statement absolutely. At the samo time, I deny the right of an ofli-i-,ial spokesman from the-Le.gion to rush into print in an ill-advised statement based on an entirely falso premise and which certainly docs me tin injustice. lam certain that sucli a prccipitato and misguided action is not compatible with the professed high ideals and unprejudiced judgment of the Legion." ■ ' ■'
