HEADLEY'S LATEST BRADM.AN OF WEST INDIES To a rather amazing list of performances in a young cricketing career, George Hcadlcy, the Bradman of the West Indies, is making some notable additions on his present visit to England with tho West Indies representatives. On Saturday this young cricketer joined distinguished company in compiling a century on his first appearance iv a match at Lord's, the headquarters of tho game. Wellington, a i'ew seasons ago, had the opportunity of Seeing this rising star of tho cricket world in action when the West Indies leant'was on its way to Australia. However, it was, only iv a one-day affair, and but little was seen of tho batsinanship which has made Headley famous. The outstanding figure in. that Wellington match was L. Constantino, the fast bowler, who took six Wellington wic> kcts, and who has now been brought into the ■■"body-line" argument by xeason of his, bowling for West Indies against M.C.C. at Lord's. Young Headley first gained representative honours intho West Indies when about 17 yc'aoi of age. Against" the1 Hon. L. H. Tennyson's Eleven in 1927 lie mado scores of 16, 71, 211, 40, and 71. He had no more first-class cricket until two years later",, when, against Sir Julien Cfthn's team, his scores were 07, '22, 17, 43, 44, and 143. In 1930 ho scored heavily against Calthorpe's M.0.6. team. There were four Tests, and'in' these Headley's scores wore 21 andi^l-76, 8 and 36, 114 and 112, and 10 and 223. His other scores were 04, 72, and 52, Last year, after his tour to Australia, on which ,he made over 1000 runs at an average of 44.41,'Headley scored' phenomenally against ■' Lord Tennyson's team visiting Jamaica, his figures being 344 not out, 84, 155. not out, and 140. These scores brought his tally for first-class cricket to 3507 runs at an average of 70.14. Reports from England indicate that Headley is showing consistently good form in the early stages of tho West Indies team's tour.
