HOSPITAL AND HARBOUR
(Special to "The Eveninj Post.") NELSON, May 11. Before commencing the business of the monthly meeting of the Nelson Hospital Board, the chairman (Major R. Dagger) said he would take the opportunity of publicly thanking: the ratepayers of Nelson, Richmond, and Tahunanui for their expression of confidence in returning' him to the board. It would bo his best endeavour to justify that confidence. He welcomed back to the board Mrs. P. G.1 Moffatt,' who was returned unopposed, showing that she had the confidence of the ratepayers of Motueka. , As.Mrs. R. Watson was absent he would reserve his congratulation until her return. To Mr. J. FitzGerald the chairman offered congratulations on his becoming' a member, and hoped he would have a happy experience ' at" the table. Major Dagger paid a graceful tribute to the service rendered by the defeated member Mr. Gr. Wharton, and a minute was made recording the board's appreciation of Mr. Wharton's services ■ The matron and the nursing staff of tho hospital gave an "at home" in the Nurses' Home yesterday with a view to raising funds for the extension of the wireless system to the chronic and tuberculosis wards. As a result the necessary amount is now available. Miss K. Miller, of Westpdrt, hasbeen appointed sister in : charge ■of the maternity department at the Nelson Hospital. , ■ ■ Tho Nelson Methodist Church, SU John's, is celebrating its 90th anniversary this week. At a social the Rev. "WV A. Burley, M.A., paid a tribute to the members of the church, from the chief stewards down, t0... the "silent workers," without whom the church could not carry on. Tho; Eev. James Hay, on behalf of the Nelson Ministers' Association and his own church, Trinity Presbyterian, conveyed eongratuations and expressions of goodwill to St.' John's. He said that in Nelson a 'happy relationship existed between all the churches, and all rejoiced with St. John's in its celebrations. Congratulations' were conveyed from. the. Methodist Church at Motueka, which itself later in the year will celebrate its 90th anniversary. • , THE HABBOTJR BOAED. ' The Nelson Harbour Board re-elected Mr. A. Gould chairman. In returning thanks' Mr. Gould said he appreciated the responsibilities and anxieties attached to the office, but with the continued kindly and sympathetic cooperation of the members 'he ■ would continue to render his best service to the board. Mr. Kelly was re-elected deputy-chairman. • He was- congratulated on his re-election1 as Mayor of Richmond. : Mr. J. Muncaster, "who has been on the staff of the Nelson Magistrate's Court office for eight years, has been transferred to the Magistrate's Court, Wellington. Mr; Muncaster, who was a prominent cricketer, - wrestler, and association footballer here, has left to take up his new duties.' Mr. D. Roundhill has been transferred from Wellington to take over. Mr. Muncaster's duties. ■';•.■ The.resignation of Mr. J. T. Kadford, ■Town Clerk of Tahuiianui, was tendered to a meeting of the Town Board, thus terminating a Temarkable record of unremitting service in the interests of the district. For. some months past Mr. Radford has-been granted, leave of absenco owing to, a serious illness, b|ut prior to that' he had not missed a meetingi' having occupied the position of Town Clerk since the board's 'in-; ception, and in-that capacity worked hard for the progress, of the township. Members spoke in eulogistic terms of Mr; Radford's -work, and it was resolved that the resignation be accepted .-with great regret.
