BONDS OF EMPIRE

OVERSEAS LEAGUE

LOCAL BRANCH REVIVED

Arrangements -were made at a meeting Of about fifty persons in the Dominion Farmers' Institute last evening to revive a branch in Wellington of the Overseas League, an Empire organisation having its headquarters in London. The meeting unanimously adopted a constitution. Mr. Marcus Marks, who presided, said the Wellington branch would have the same objects as the parent body, namely, to help one another to render individual service to the Empire, to maintain the power of the Empire, and toholdtoitsbesttraditions, and to draw together in the bond of comradeship British people the world over. Ll particular, Mr. Marks said, the new branch would aim to provide facilities for the carrying out of the league's objects in the capital city and surrounding districts, and to promote social intercourse between Wellington members of the league. A branch was formerly in existence in Wellington, but a committee meeting had not been held for three years. At present the league had a membership in Wellington of 250, and ho thought they should not allow more than three months to elapse without meetings. Tho parent body was willing to give a grant of £100 a year if a branch were formed. Tho qualification for membership, added Mr. Marks, required that it was necessary to join tho parent body in London before one could join the Wellington branch. It was proposed, however, to admit any person in a member's family over the age of fifteen, provided tho parent body in London had no objection. ' The subscription, to the branch was fixed at ss. Mr. N. A. Foclen, branch secretary, briefly outlined what the organisation hoped to do in the future. He stated that arrangements would be made to get into touch with distinguished visi-. tors from the Homeland with a view to their giving addresses and an exchange of views, so that the local members could be kept in touch with thought at Home. The.following officers were elected:—•! President, Bt. Hon. Sir Michael Myers; hon. corresponding secretary, Mr. A. Sutherland; lion, branch secretary, Mr. N. A. Foden; hon. treasurer, Mr. Eusscll Boyle; committee, Mrs. W. S. Peace, Mrs. H. A. Kirkealdie, Miss M. Brien, Messrs. Marcus Marks, E. G. Jack, G. E. Lambert, and J. P. M. Bertram. At the conclusion of the addresses members wore enrolled, and a very gratifying' response was made. After the business of the meeting supper was served.
