REMITS CARRIED

The following remits -were carried at the annual conference of the New Zealand Educational Institute yesterday afternoon:-— In view of the fact that teachers are expected to devote more time to science teaching, and also that the director reported adversely on the teaching of science last year, the Department make available a grant to enable schools to be supplied with science materials.—(Wanganui). That no school be degraded, nor teacher suffer a reduction in salary due to fall in grade owing to exclusion of five-year-olds until May of next year. —(Hawke's Bay). That the N.Z.E.L .protests against any proposal to make teachers transferred owing to fall of grade of school pay thnir own removal expenses.— (Southern Hawke's Bay). That the N.Z.E.I. have- a careful survey mnde of -tlio position in regard to rationed teachers; especially with a view to seeing that the position is not being exploited.—(Wellington). Tho following two remits were referred to tho executive for consideration: That full salary rates be paid to all assistants provided for under schedule I of the public schools staffs, salaries, and attendance regulations.—(Wellington). That all teachers relieving in assistantships position provided under schedule I of the public schools staffs, salaries, and attendance regulations be paid full relieving rates of pay.—(Wellington).
