(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHBISTpiCUECH, This Day. ' Damage estimated at £10,000 wa« caused by a fire which gutted the bacon department of the Canterbury Frozen. Meat Company's factory at Belfast early this morning., ■ • ■' Eaging fiercely for over three- hoursthe fire made a clean sweep of the' centre block of the factory-buildings* reducing the bacon curing, packing, and' drying rooms to ruins. The bacon chiller and beef chiller -were-- also destroyed. Tho factory brigade and the brigade from the central station, Christchurch, combined forces, in a strenuous fight. 'Although nothing could be done to save the bacon factory, they were successful in preventing the fire spreading to other departments which were menaced. The insurances on the building will cover the loss. The origin is unknown. The night watchman visited the block at 2.35 a.m. All was then in.order,.but twenty; minutes later flames were observed ia the- roof.
