AGELLO IN MACCHI MACHINE

I Warrant-Officer Agello, of the Italiaii I Air Force, is'reported to,have attained lan average speed on three attempts I over the measured mile at Lake Garda exceeding 439 miles an hour. If this is'substantiated, it beats Flight-Lieu-tenant Stainforth's world record of 408. Agello is. tho only survivor of tho little band of heroes, .five of whom wero killed in-attempting to wrest tho record from Britain. '■■■'■..[ * ■ Agello flow a Ma-cchi seaplane with a 2800 horse-power engine, driving two propellers, which revolve in opposita directions. ' A later message from Lako Garda states that Italy has officially claimed the record. The Italian Air Ministry announces that Agello averaged 426.5 miles per hour in five flights, tho highest speed being' 432.8 miles per hour. The Air Mftiistry permitted Agello'a attempts as tho Macchi, with a Fiat engine, although uncompleted at tho timo of tho Schneider Trophy Race in. 1931,-'' later reached unprecedented speeds. Italy is now perfecting a new machine with greater fineness . and power to attack the record again. is recalled - that Agello twice narrowly escaped death in crashing in Lako Garda during tho ilacchi trials.
