TAKINGS AT WELLINGTON
Reporting to last night's meeting of the Wellington Cricket Association's management committee, the treasurer (Mr. W. J. R. Chrietophcrseu) stated that the takings on the occasion of the M.C.C. team's match with Wellington at. the Basin Reserve on March 22 amounted to USG3 Us lOd. Considering that the charge for admission to the ground was Is, as a-ainst higher charges at the mutches in Christeliurch and Auckland, the takings are regarded aa exceptional for -a midweek day. They represent a record- for one day in Wellington, and are.easily the best for New Zealand for a midweek day 2 cricket. They also.serve to confirm the estimate that there were about 20,000 ncople at the match, some thousands, including children, having been admitted free. .- ■ Of the takings, the City Council receives a: 127 19s 6d, and a further sum of £ol ,15s as wages for City Council employees. The match was run by the Wellington Cricket Association for the New Zealand Cricket Council. It was also reported by the treasurer last night that the net takings from club matches this season was £67, and membership tickets realised £85. The OtagoWellington Plunket Shield match showed a net profit to the association of £50 7s 3d. Net takings at the McCirr benefit match were £22 15s 3d.
