JUMPING AND DOG TRIALS

While for the business section of the community the chief intorest in the Enstei' Show lies in the well displayed examples of Now Zealand-made goods, each wkh its owu appeal to special customers, many of those who go to the biy fair at the John Street grounds do so to be diverted or entertained, and for these the massed trades display tonight, a brilliant spectacle of feminine dress iv all its daintiness, worn by specially choseu damsels from the-leading fashiou temples of-the city, will provide pleasure, and, to the feminine portion of the big nightly crowd, information on the most important subject of all, what to wear. As Easter approaches the public interest in the Stock Show and the competitive events associated with it is increasing. On Easter Saturday, this will commence with dog trials at 2.30 p.m., for which there are sixteen entries. The event will be run under the rules of the North Island Sheep Dog Trials Association, and the judge' will be Mr. M. McLeod, Martinborough. From 2.30 to 3 p.m. the draughts, spring cart horses, and tradesmen's horee'a will be judged, and at 3-p.m. there will commence the Wellington Drapers', Clothiers',. Mercers' and Boot Retailors' jumping competition, with valuable prizes, for which there are entries from Levin, Masterton, Mangaweka, Taihape, and other country districts. At . the conclusion of the horse jumping, in which some well-known animals and riders are taking part, there will commence the steer riding, always a mirth-provoking contest, but one of stark reality for the riders. On Monday, starting at 2.30 p.m., the judging of the hacks, trotters, and ponies will commence, and at 3.30 p.m. the ladies' jumping coutest begins, followed by the hunters' jump and steer riding. The Stock Show opens cm Tuesday with the parade for champion hack, and this, the concluding day, will see the _ wire jump, jumping in-pairs, consolation jump, and steer riding. The final event in each day's programme will be the steer riding, timed to commence at 4 p.m. SEWING AND FANCY WORK. The judge, Miss C. M.
