WORSER BAY CLUB
The final race of the Worser BayBoating Club's season, was sailed off last week in a light northerly for a trophy presented by Mrs. A. C. Bellamore. The course was from the clubhouse to the Scatoun Wharf, to the Pinnacles, to "Ward Island, with "Blinking Bill" to windward, thence to Jern.ingham to "Blinking Bill," to the Pinnacles, to the wharf, and home. The boats were all away together with a flying start, handicaps being sealed. There were nine entrants and all finished the race. On the long beat to Ward Island places changed continually, the O.K. Baby falling, behind. The first three boats to round the island were the Banui, Eesult, and Demon, which established a good lead, and maintained it till nearly opposite Kau Point, when the wind dropped. The Eanui gradually forged ahead, leaving the Result and the Demon to wallow in a rolling sea without a breath of wind. Meanwhile the Kiwi, Lady Grace, Spinet, and Idol had brought the wind with 'them, the latter two boats reaching Jerningham first. Except for the short beat from the wharf to the finishing line, the rest of the race was entirely off the wind, land it soon became evident that tho ■ itanui's lead would give her the trophy. The Kiwi, Spinet, and Idol did well on the long run to the "blinker," but they were unfortunate in losing the wind at a critical moment. The corrected times by the clock were: Eanui (D. McKenzie), 5h 12m-555, 1; Kiwi (N. MqKenzic), 5h Urn 508, 2; Idol (K. Fellowes), 5,« 10m ss, 3. Also started: Spinet ,(F- Christciisen), Sh 18m 555; Demon (G. Cain), 5h 19m 20s; Lady Grace (J. King), 5h 20m; Kea (J. Gow), 5h 20m ss; Eesult (B. Sang), 5h 24m 655;» O.K. Baby (A. Dean), 5h 42m 12s. , Quite a number of Worser Bay boats will be competing at the Paremata Easter Eegatta. ■ •
