"I am glad to say that within a few weeks we shall be making a start with, the new building," said the chairman of the board of trustees, Mr. A. J. Hutchinson, when referring to the establishment of a homo iqr the elderly blind, at the annual meeting, of subscribers, at Auckland on Tuesday (reports the "Auckland Staf").

"I have spoken on several occasions of our earnest desire to erect a'home for the elderly blind, where they might find congenial and sunny surroundings in their closing days," added Mr. Hutchinson. The building would be erected in, the grounds,of the institute, and in the first instance would provide accommodation for 28 men' The cost would, be between £8000 and £9000. ! The sura of £640 had already been contributed, mostly by blind people, and a special sum had been set aside in the Pearson fund. It would, however, be necessary to borrow £4000 in anticipation of certain expectations from bequeathed estates or from public subscriptions. "The board is not making any special appeal, but nevertheless will bo deeply grateful to anyone who can give to this much-needed home."

Beforence was also ma,d<v by the chairman'to the fact that the trustees had made provision for the accommodation, of married blind people and the staff by the conversion of the house, belonging to the institute, at the corner of George Street and Parnell Road. There were f our well-equipped and commodious flats which would provide cheap and convenient accommodation.
