JOCKEYS STOOD DOWN
INCIDENTS AT ROSEHILL,
(From "Vedette.") SYDNEY, March 31.' Although six races only came up for decision at Rosehill on Saturday, including one unusually small field of five, there were plenty of incident and two suspensions. The small programme was not unexpected, for with transport charges it costs £7 to start a horse at distant Rosehill as against just over £3 on the; former suburban -courses. . • '- ■'" - ■'."■■ ,■ The two riders to come under the stewards' ban were S. Davidson-and the successful apprentice, B. Parsons. Davidson, who has had abundant experience, and is one of the senior jockeys, was riding the two-year-old Burlesque, who went suddenly across Dromos and Leila Vale a furlong from home, knocking them both out of the race, although Dromos did struggle on again to gain third place. For carelessness in not having more control over his mount, Davidson received two months' suspension. _ , ; Parsons was really unlucky in receiving a similar sentence. He was blamed for interference to a horse ridden by another apprentice, who,;tried to come iip on the rails where there was quite insufficient room. ■■:■■':.■■• P. Riddle had ,a good win with the Magpie horse Magnitas, and only bad luck robbed him of a, second success with Satmoth later fin the day in the principal handicap. Satmoth was pocketed just ai> the critical moment, and tailed by a short head. . -
Jonker was ridden right out tj gain third place in' the 'Trial. Stakes, a spe-cial-weight sc.ven-furlong event, in. which he had only 7.5. A smart horse in Barrier King won. Jonker's display was only fair. '. ■,
Lavington was unplaced, in ; 'the Club Handicap, won by Satmoth. He was a trifle above himself,1 but ran quite a fair race, and will take a share of the prizemoney later on.- ■ ■ •
The Thomond gelding, Ephialtes, scored his first Sydney success in the Lydalmere Mile, contested by five runners. He romped out in front, and led all the way. Pentheus, now a sour horse and a back number, ran a poor race, and a fair welter miler in Merryland, conceding 151b. to Ephialtes, was the only-one to put up a respectable showing, and he was beaten by two lengths and a hall.- • Love Song was a big tip for the handicap, but he found- eleven furlongs quite beyond him. He has been given every chance, but has let his party down badly. No doubt he will be put back to ■welter miles, which are his real game.
