EFFECT ON PRICES
DELAY IN DECISION
DANISH WIN ON BACON
LONDON, March 23
The delay in arriving at a decision on butter restrictions has caused prices to fall in the meantime. In anticipation of restrictions the Continent is sending iarge quantities of butter to Great Britain. Twenty-sis thousand hundredweight of Siberian butter has arrived since the middle of February, compared with nothing for the corresponding period of 1932. Importers fear that prices will decline further unless restrictions are quickly imposed. An illustration of the effect of restrictions is afforded by ba-con, the price of which has risen 30 per cent, in the four months sinco the quota was imposed. Danish bacon is now fetching the- same price as Australian butter, instead of usually about half.
