RELEASED ON BAIL
MOSCOW PRISONERS
SOVIET AND VICKERS FIRM
OFFICIAL ATTITUDE
United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received March 24, 11 a.m.) LONDON, March 23. The Soviet has asked the Metropolitan Vickers Company to deposit 25,000 roubles on behalf of Mr. Thornton and 15,000 each on behalf of Messrs. Gregory and Cushny. Britain reiterated to M. Litvinoff that only an unconditional release without trial would be regarded as satisfactory.
Moscow reports that the three Britons in question were released on bail.
Well-informed circles say that Cabinet yesterday discussed the question of an embargo on allUussian imports after April 17, after which a severance of diplomatic relations would naturally follow. The view predominates officially that the arrest of the engineers was a trumped-up affair and unconditional release is the only solution.
