CHILLED BEEF

A HOPEFUL, OUTLOOK

COMPANY'S DECISION

(By Telegraph.)

(Special to "The Evening Post.")

MASTEKTON, This Day.

"la view of the gratifying success of our recent experimental shipment we have now definitely decided to make further shipments of chilled tjCef from New Zealand," Mr. P. J. Borthwick, a director of Messrs. T. Borthwick and Sons, stated yesterday. He could not say when the next shipment would be made, he added, but ho doubted whether it would be possible to make one this year, as the typo of beef required was not available during the winter mouths. Full consideration would also have to be given to the detailed reports from Home concerning the recent shipment. It was satisfactory to note, he said, that the Port Fairy had proved herself "100 per cent,'^ by carrying to the Home mar ; ket two successful consignments of chilled beef, one from Australia and one from. New Zealand.

Questioned regarding London requirements «in chilled beef, Mr. Borthwick said that he was obtaining reports from scientists and experts at Home which should prove1 of benefit to farmers interested in the chilled beef industry. Personally he thought that farmers would find that they, could run their cows- on hill country and graze the calves on their fertile lands. The calves could be weaned at nine months and be ready for .the butcher at two years. Generally speaking he was quite hopeful regarding the prospects of tho industry for Dominion farmers.
