UNUSUAL ASSAULT
INCIDENT AT PETONE
•An 'unusual incident in .Jackson Street, Petone, had its sequel in tho Magistrate's Court at Petono today whea Leslie Henry Kilkolly was charged with assaulting Clara. Elizabeth Brown. .
Senior Sergeant H. H. Butler, said that at about 8 p.m. on February 25 the complainant and a girl friend were talking together, in Jackson Street when Kilkolly and another youth came along. Kilkolly made a remark which' the complainant resented, and she slapped his face, whereupon he tried to kiss her. ' He had since apologised. For the defendant, Mr. G. Findrlay entered a plea of guilty. He explained the circumstances more fully and said that there.could bo no possible suggestion of any evil intention in. the occurrence, which took place in tho main street of Petonc early in tho evening. Kilkolly had since given a. ■ written apology. He was on relief works and was the sole support of his widowed mother and younger' children. ' For .that reason, Mr. Findlay asked for leniency.
'"I-think; he had a drink or two and didn't know- what he "Was doing," remarked the Senior Sergeant. Kilkolly was at present on probation, for another offence-:- '
Mi1. J. 'Cr. L. Hewitt, S.M., convicted Klilkolly and ordered him to come up £or sentence, if. called,upon within six months.
