ECONOMY MEASURES
SEVERE CUTS FORECAST

OTTAWA, March 20.
A general cut in war pensions, likely to bo 10 per cent., is stated to have been decided upon by the Government as an economy measure. It may also be necessary to reduce Civil Service salaries another 10 per cent.
Cabinet is believed to have dropped out of the Budget to be brought down on Tuesday a 1 per cent, tax on all wages. A new levy will be imposed later, if necessary.
The Government proposed two amendments to the unemployment relief legislation on Monday in the House of Commons. The first would enable the Dominion to accept securities/ from the provinces for leans and advances, and the second would provide blanket power for peace, order, and good government in Canada.
