BOLE'S STABLEMATE

PEGGED EXCHANGE FIT

Although Dole has developed into the performer of dominant merit, his trainer, H. "A. Telford, continues to hold a, high opinion of his stablemate, Pegged Exchange, whom he believes will one of these days show form fully commensurate with the speedy lines of his breeding. As Dole has compulsorily finished his season's racing the stable will now attempt to win a race or two with Pegged Exchange before the term is over.

It was anticipated prior to last week's meeting' that Pegged Exchange would race well in the Plunket Nursery Handicap on the second day, but in the end he was not started.

When it is. noted that the topweight (and winner) of that race, Red Manfred, was asked to meet Pegged Exchange ac only lib worse terms than in January, when he won and Pegged Exchange was unplaced, one of the possible reasons why Pegged Exchange was .withdrawn and stepped out in the high-class Challenge Stakes field with 81b overweight is quite facilely perceived. The lenience accorded Red Manfred may be further realised when it is also noted that he and Lady Nan (another unplaced runner in January) were asked to meet again at their January difference!

Pegged Exchange went quite a fair race for. part of the' way iv' the Challenge, and although last home he was not needlessly : kno'eked about when a place berth was out_of the question. His next appearance is due to Be iv the Sires' Produce' Stakes at Awapuni tomorrow, and as he is one of the fittest horses at present in training at Trentham he is quite capable of going a really excellent race.
