THE KINSEN MARU

RESCUE OF SURVIVORS

CAPTAIN CATO'S STORY

(Received March 20, 10 a.m.)

BRISBANE, This Day. Captain Cato of. the rescue ship Hide Maru supplements his story of the rescue of thirteen' survivors from the Kinsen Maru in a further radio message, in which he says he was informed that it would have been quite useless trying to launch the Kinsen's Hoats owing to the mountainous seas, but they were duly provisioned. The survivors had a nightmare swim to the boat washed overboard,'' only to find oars and tails missing. However, the men were very lucky, in being seen in such seas, especially in the night-time. The survivors include a deck officer, also the chief, first, and second engineers, the wireless operator, the bosun, three sailors, a first oiler, two firemen and one waiter.

SYDNEY, March 19. bhippmg men are of opinion that there is little hope of finding the remainder of the Kinsen Maru's crew. The Hide Maru, .which found thirteen survivors, has abandoned the search and is continuing her voyage to Geelong, Victoria.
