FRESH HORSE SCORES

TAKAKUA'S HIGHWEIGHT

A fresh1 horse, Takakua, who has lately come into the form he promised prior to a bad-fall at the Grand National Meeting in August, won the Ngaio Highweight Handicap in very clear-cut fashion. He lay in fourth place on the fence till.they reached the straight, then came through fast, and easily withstood a challenge from March Alone to score by three lengths.

March A]one, the favourite both ways, began slowly,, and was always at the rear with Revision till reaching the straight. He then came through with a good, run, but he never looked like reaching the winner. He was* badly away both starts at the meeting, but he finished stoutly on each occasion.

Red Flush, after beginning best, lost his position in the first furlong. Halfway down the straight his rider took him over to the outer, and he finished strongly to deprive Granado of third placing, two lengths behind March Alone. Granado, second most of the way, did best of the others. Azure -was rushed to the lead early- after having been squeezed back at the start, and died out in the straight. Revision, also beginning badly, never improveS. Aladdin, making his reappearance after an absence of nearly twelve months, showed brief pace in the middle stages, but condition failed him in the straight.
