CIVIL SERVICE TOURNEY

The Civil Service inter-departmental sports tourney for the Ward Memorial Challenge Trophy concluded yesterday afternoon when an excellent athletic programme was held on the Basin Reserve. There was a large crowd present, and the weather was fine. The events were run off in a mos(; expeditious manner.

The trophy, which was presented for inter-departmental competition in swim-. ruing, tennis, and atbjetics, was won for the fifth time by the Post and Telegraph Department which fielded a particularly strong team. The trorihy was competed for in 1911. 1912, 1913, and 1921. and this ye nr marks a revival of the tournament. Well over three hundred individuals competed in the 41 events, some of which required as many as twelve heats to be run off before the final was leached. borne of Wellington's best-known athletes competed including P.
