A SUPERANNUATION RETURN.
Several correspondents write in reference to Public. Service superannuation and particularly the return supplied at the request of the- Hon. C. <f. Carrington showing the contributions and amounts drawn by annuitants receiving the larger allowances. Some of the correspondents point to this return as. revealing injustice in that "privileged" persons can obtain such superannuation, while many worthy persons have only small relief allowances. Other writers point: out that full allowance was not made in tlje return for compound interest on'contributions, or for the fact that some contributors die soon after retirement. One correspondent states that . the inequality arises from calculating: the, pension on the three last (and usually highest-paid) years of service, instead of on an actuarial basis. As this and other points are dealt with in the amending Bill which will not be further considered until next session of Parliament, it is useless to continue the discussion now.
