WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
PARTY AT SILVERSTREAM
The Silverstream Women's Institute celebrated its second birthday party recently in the Silverstream Social Hall. Members of the Stokes Valley, Belmont, Upper Hutt,> and Wainui-o-mata Institutes were present;' also members of the Silverstream Men's Society and the husbands of the Silverstream members. Mrs. Castle presided. A -very enjoyable programme, which was presented by the Dramatic and Singing Circles and other friends, comprised- a short play, "Waiting for the Bus," and solos, part-songs, .and recitations. -, Two ; short sketches by Mcsdames E. Campbell and C. Jones caused groat amusement. '
Miss Maddever made a happy little speech, and Mr. F. Castle spoke on the Women's Institute movement and its power for good in the country. During the evening a presentation was made to Mrs. Young, the first president, prior to her departure for England. Mrs. Castle, when making the presentation, voiced members' appreciation of Mrs. Young's untiring devotion to the interests of the institute; also their good wishes.for a pleasant trip, and the hope that she would return soon.
The beautiful birthday cake, made and decorated by Mrs. Cleaver, -was much enjoyed. Its two candles were ligKted by two small daughters of institute members, and it was cut by Miss Maddever. Three cheers were given for the visitors, the president, and, by the Men's Society, three cheers for the. Silverstream Women's Institute. Beautiful posies were presented to the president, the secretary, and the two youngest performers.in the. play. Tho National Anthem brought a very happy party to a close.
