BLOCKAGE OF DRAIN

The superintendent of the Wellington Free Ambulance (Mr. F. Roffe) reported at today's meeting of the Ambulance Board that lie. had written to the City Engineer drawing attention to the serious position which had arisen in regard to the drainage system in the new building. On Saturday last the drain became blocked and the sewage ran down the private passage between the new building and the adjoining premises. He had pointed out that in the general design and layi out of the building the sanitary and health aspect was a guiding principle, and the board was most anxious that there should be nothing capable of .carrying disease in the vicinity of the plant and building. He had been informed by the contract* that the public drain, which had insufficient fall, had been used to avoid cutting up the street to make connection with the other drainage system.
