REJECTED NOTES
' "With British silver and Xew Zealand notes I have had no trouble at the various ports en route to Britain (writes a traveller who left Xew Zealand before the exchange was raised). In Australian ports I was on a win, and in the Indian and Red Sea ports had no difficulty. But the shrewd hucksters and money changers would havo no truck with Australian silver or notes. Outside Australia its money is despised and rejected; even a coloured baggage porter at Port Said refused an Australian 2s as a tip. So the Australians I have met aboard are wondering :f the high exchange is the blessing it is represented by the currency jugglers after all. I have yet to meet an Australian in favour of the retention or the high exchange."
