INFLATION'S CONNECTIONS
AWAPUNI TRACK NOTES
(Special from "Binocular.") ' PALMERSTON NORTH, March 14. Awapuni claims a very small representation at Trentham on the opening day, but there was a fair amount of fast work accomplished this morning, the major portion being executed on the plough on account of the course proper's being on the hard side.
La Moderne (Chisholm) and Inflation (Gomm), both of whom figure in the St. Leger Stakes, registered a smart six furlongs gallop ou the plough by running the distance in Imin 19see. La Moderne jumped, feway quickly-and she left the first three furlongs behind/in 3Ssec. The colt momentarily promised to close up at the head of the straight, but the filly was three lengths clear at the post. The- owner of Inflation ■ is uncertain whether the colt shall contest the St. Leger or the Thompson Handicap, but it is quite possible that he will be given another trial over a long distance. T. Green was engaged to ride him, but he was expected at Awapuni yesterday and failed to arrive.
Princess Doreen (Voitre) was sei^t over five furlongs on the.outside of the course proper. The filly galloped very smoothly, getting to the end of the-first two furlongs in. 26 2-ssec, .three in 39 3-osec, and the full distance in Imin ssec—a very satisfactory effort. Provided the going, is firm she will have plenty of admirers in the Champion Plate. As usual, Voitre will be in the saddle. • " '■-... :
Senegal (Broughton), who figures in the hack mile, jumped away at the seven furlongs post to. run the distance 'in Imin 36see. The initial furlong was done in 14 ;2-ssec, two in 27 3-ssec, and five in Imm 9see. He appears to have his fair share of weight; nevertheless he should run a satisfactory race. B. H. Morris will be his rider.
Royston (McDonald) and Henry of Navarre (Shearman) were partners over six furlongs, the first three being left behind in 40sec. Though Royston was travelling the better at the close, it was apparent that_ Henry of Navarre would not be long in approaching racing trim again.
The two steeplechasers, Omeo (Broughton) and Callamart (Reed); ran a couple of rounds on the plough, coming home the last half-mile in S7sec and the' concluding three furlongs in 42see. Leisure (Reed) rap a steady six furlongs in Imin 22 2-ssec, the first' two being left behind in 27sec. . .
Chief Marionette (Broughton) set too fast a. pace for Easterly over, six furlongs, beintr clear at the finish after running the full distance in Imin 20 4-ssec. The mare appears to have benefited by her race at Bulls. '
Mercian Prince (McDowell) was going better than Adventus" (Voitre) at the close of a seven furlongs gallop in Imin 38 4-ssec. : The first two -furlongs were covered, in ;27 2-ssec and the half-mile in 5G l-ssec.
Golden Ghant (McCormac) was under a good hold in the first portion of. a five furlongs fask, but she left the last three furlongs behind in 41sec. Th\e full' dis-" tance took Imin 8 2-osec, but, she could have doric a lot better. ■ '' '■'"-: ''■
Haulbowline (Reed) set the pace, for Beaconsfield (Broughton) in. a seven .-fur; longs task and stayed in; front' till 'th>' close.: The first,half-mile.was left,be&'iidiri 52 'l-Sseo, und the seven furlongs in Imin 34 3-ssec. '
Prince Romeo fGomml.;was travelling better than Lady Court (Thomson) at the close of three furlongs On the ' course proper, the two-year-old rnnning the distance in 39 1-osec. Catalogue (Voitre), a stable companion of Princess Doreen, ran a nice half-mile on the course proper in 52 l-ssec. A big-framed sort, he may renuire time.

Golden Wings, La Moderne, Miss Hushabye, and TJolo; S. Anderson, Red Flush and Speed. W. J.
