PETONE-HUTT GAS BOARD

The monthly meeting of the Petone and Lower Hutt Gas Lighting Board was held last night. Mr. AY. G. Lodder presided, and there were also present Messrs. S. Clendon. W. T. Strand, W. G. Meldrum, A. Scholfield, C. P. Brockelbank, and E. T. E. Hogg. A request was received from the Moera liatepayers' League for a reduction in the price of gas. The board regretted that its present circumstances were such that it could not accede to the request, which was referred to the new board for consideration in May.

The works manager (Mr. C. Shaw) reported that in February 9,154,000 cubic feet of gas had been manufactured from 021 tons 15cwt of coal carbonised, giving an average .make per ton of 14,717 cubic feet. t The, average calorific va]ue of the gas was 464 B.Th.U. and 5S7;000 cubic feet less o£ it was made than in February, 1932, '■• Goal,' tar, ■ arid coke in stock on .March 1 were; estimated to amount to 530 tons Bcw_t, 24,295 gallons, and 89 tons 3cwt, respectively. The acting-secretary (Mr. O. Silbery) reported that in February five new services, 12 cookers, and 2 hotplates had been installed.
