PRIVATE ADVICES

The Bank of New Zealand (produce department) has received the following advice from its London office, under date March 14: "The sales have opened dull with an irregular demand. ■ Compared with the close of last series prices are a halfpenny lower." AVERAGE SELECTION. Wright, Stephenson. and Company, Ltd., and Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report having received cabled advice from their London house regarding the London wool •sales, reading as follows: —''The London wool sales opened to an average attendance of buyers of whom • the Continental and Bradford buyers were the.chief operators. An average selection of wool was offered, competition was fair. W£ quote the following average prices:—Greasy merino. 60/64's, yielding 50 per cent., 9d; fine halfbred. 56/58"s, 65 per cent., 10d; half bred, 50/56's, 67 per cent., '8M:d; three-quarter-bred, 48/50's, 73 per cent., 6%d; fine crossbred. 46/48's, 74 per cent., 5Hd; medium crossbred, 44/46's, 75 per cent., iVsd; crossbred, 40/44's, 76 per cent., 4%d. Australian merino, prices, 5 per cent, lower; scoured prices, 5 to 10 per cent, lower; sliped prices 5 to 7% per cent, lower." SCOUrJED AND SLIPE DECLINE. Messrs. Levin and Co., Ltd., have received the following cable from their London agents, dated March 14:—"The auctions opened here today with a large attendance of buyers: As at'present arranged the sales will close on March, 31. Compared with the closing rates of'last sales, we quote :—Greasy merinos, halfbreds and crossbreds;' all about V*d to %d per lb lower; scoured-merinos, %d to %d per lb lower; scoured crossbreds, %d lower; slipe wools generally, %d lower." QUANTITY AVAILABLE. The New Zealand. Farmers' Co-op. Distributing? The following cabled, information has been received by Messrs. Murray, Roberts, and •Co., Ltd., from their • London agents, dated March 14:—-"Sales have opened, competition fair. Compared with last London sale's closing rates, greasy merino, par to 5 per cent, decline; scoured merino, poor selection offered, insufficient to test the market; crossbred, greasy-. comeback and crossbred greasy fine declined 5 to -10 per cent.; crossbred greasy medium and coarse declined 10 per cent.; slipe crossbred declined 7% to 10 per cent.; crossbred scoured declined 5 to 10 per cent." RESTRICTED COMPETITION. , New Zealand Loan and ~Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, has received the following advice from its London house, dated March 14:—"Wool sales: There was a good attendance at the opening of the sales today, competition by Home and Continental buyers being restricted. The catalogues were fairly representative. As compared with the close of preceding series values generally V>d per lb lower." \BUYING MODERATELY. Messrs. H. Irwell, London, reports:— "Sale opened with all sections .of the trade buying .moderately, selection poor. Prices are lower for fine crossbred by 5 per cent, to 7% per cent., medium and coarse 10. per cent, lower." BRADFORD THE MAINSTAY. R. G. Anderson, Ltd., have received the following cablegram from London today:—"Wool sales opened with indifferent selection generally. Prices are lower for fine crossbred %d, and for medium and coarse %d. Bradford buyers are main operators." HOME TRADE BUYING. Dalgety and Company's report, London March 14:—"London wool sales opened •with good competition and average attendance; fair selection. Home trade principal operators, Continental buyers reserved. As compared with closing rates of last series:—Merino, %d to %d lower; halfbred, %d told; fine crossbred, %d to %d; medium and coarse crossbred, %d to %d; slipe, %d to %d, all lower."
