SPECIALISATION

IN RUGBY FOOTBALL

VERSATILITY DESIRABLE

The International Eugby Board, which, in a circular to affiliated unions last year, advocated less specialisation in particular positions as far as the forwards were concerned, was supported by the president of tho Wellington Club, Mr.' J. Murray, at the club's annual meeting last night. Mr. Murray said he did not think >Te\v Zealand could do away with specialisation in the forwards altogether— the forwards had to be proficient in the parts they were called, upon to play— but they should go furthef and endeavour to be able to perform creditably in any part of the field. Generally speaking, New Zealand forwards were not as all-round efficient as they ought to be. ( Tho desirability of a sound knowledge of the *u!es of the game was also stressed by Mr. Murray. Place-kicking was a department of the game in which all players should endeavour to become efficient. ENTHUSIASTIC MEETING.' The .meeting was one of the largest and most enthusiastic held during ,the club's lengthy career, about 130 members being present. In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet, Mr. Murray said that the club had maintained a high place in Wellington Eugby foot-1 ball. The players had shown' enthusiasm and earnestness, and special thanks were due to those who had- coached the successful teams. It was a matter for congratulation that the club had three | members in last year's New Zealand team. Several players had also gained] places in Wellington ' representative teams, and it could be said that the club ] was holding its own in every grade. It was hoped that the club would have a well-equipped gymnasium of its own in the near future. • Dr. 'P. F. McEvedy was accorded a vote of thanks for the assistance he had rendered the club during the year. Mr. F. D. Kilby was elected a" life member of-the-club, and 22 new members were elected.
